Documenting a project using a “failures box”

Fellow

by Susanna Tesconi -

At Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, I worked with 6 groups this year from primary school to high school, each one with a different project. Consequently a lot of prototypes are hanging around the fabLAB. In order to keep the lab not too messy I decided to have each group fabricate stackable boxes by modifying a design from thingiverse.

Three lessons learned about making in classroom

Fellow

by Susanna Tesconi -

I spent the last 3 years, among other things, working as learning environment designer at Laboral Art Center Gijón, Spain. The art center has a fabLAB that is used for artistic production as well as education and research LAB by several public schools in the region.

What I do exactly is to help teachers from primary and high school to integrate digital fabrication, rapid prototyping, physical/creative computing, design, making etc. in the classroom.

In a week I'll be presenting, together with L. Arias a short paper at Fablearn Europe.  This is an extract I like to share with you Fellows.

Abstract

In this paper, we describe an ongoing education programme promoted by LABoral Art Centre that uses digital fabrication and ¨making¨ in order to produce methodological change in teaching practice in public schools. Also we present a case study as example of FabLab environment used as constructionist toolkit.

What is a fablab in three words plus a strange object

Fellow

by Susanna Tesconi -

Since I moved my first steps on the maker scene I was interested about what people think about fabLAB/maker space format and how they define it. During FAB5: The Fifth International Fab Lab Forum and Symposium on Digital Fabrication in Pune, India in 2009 I made a mini doc asking people  to define a fabLAB in 3 words. Here the video.

Pedagogy of the oppressed-From practice to praxis

To resolve the teacher-student contradiction, to ex- change the role of depositor, prescriber, domesticator, for the role of student among students would be to undermine the power of oppression and serve the cause of liberation.
